A Mother’s Day Tribute

So, I know, Mother’s Day isn’t for another week (oh how I love that day..NO DIAPERS FOR ME!!!), but over at 5 Minutes for Mom, they are doing a contest. Win $1000!!!! I love that :) So, here is one of my favorite Motherhood photos.

I love this picture, for many reasons. I call this one, Beginning of the Road. This was taken when I was 36 weeks pregnant with my first child. I had no idea what was in store for me. This was the beginning of the road of Motherhood.

This child taught me what real love is, what it is to really worry, to really laugh and to really grieve. I held her in my arms for 8 months and 8 days, then she suddenly left this life. However, she continues to teach me. As I raise her younger brother, sister, and new sibling coming in September, I am reminded of her. When I have those days when I don’t think I can do it anymore, I feel her next to me, encouraging me, cheering me on, giving me a snuggle.

She continues to teach me, and that is what Motherhood is all about, learning, growing, laughing, loving. Thank you Emma, thank you for making me a Mother, and helping me be a better one everyday.

Ah, another day.

I love when those bad days end!  I was able to go to knit at our local yarn store on Thursday and had a good time chatting with friends and laughing.  Thank you all for your well wishes and love.  I appreciate it!

So, I’m going to be selling dresses at a boutique in Salt Lake on May 3rd.  The boutique is Art Inside, and it is going to be fabulous!!!  Go check out the blog for this awesome boutique!  Oh, and win some free earrings!!!

Speaking of dresses…wanna see my latest creation?  I intended on making this for the Gardener’s Market and the boutique, but when I tried it on A to see what size it was, she wouldn’t take it off!  So, I guess this is her new dress!!!

I have also been knitting!!!  I started a soaker for A a while ago, and finished it, but she pooped on it before I could get a picture of it!  So, you’ll have to wait for that one.  After I finished that I decided she needed some shorties for this summer.  So, I made her a pair of shorties with Cascade 220, and another wool yarn that I don’t know the name of.  I did the Curly Purly waste band, and Sheepy Pants shorts pattern.  I love them, and more importantly, so does she!

We’ve had some crazy spring weather here.  It was 80 on Monday, and snowy and 35 on Tuesday!  Ugh.  Today it will be beautiful, tomorrow snow.  I really don’t love spring in Utah.  We got our garden started last weekend though, boy I can’t wait for fresh garden veggies!

Well, now I’m off to sew.  If you’re in the Salt Lake area, come to the Art Inside Boutique on May 3rd!!  There will be food, lots of great items to look at or purchase (it’s the weekend before Mother’s Day!), and fun!  Make it a girls day, we all need those!!!

One of those days.

You know those days? The ones where you wake up at 6 am to a toddler screaming for “nursies” and trying in vain to hold her off? Then when you finally get her back to sleep your 3 year old comes in and jumps on the bed, messes with your face and the spot on your head where the hair is matted away from a restless night sleep? Those days when you finally sneak out of bed to take a shower just to hear said 3 year old exclaim, “MOM! My sister is AWAKE!” then you hear her scream and cry, “I want YOU!” (this will be the first of MANY in the day). Those days when you yell at your dh, and both children before 7:30??? The ones where your 3 year old spanks you because you are yelling at his sister? The ones when both of your children are saying, “Mom, be nice.”. Those days when you seriously wonder if you should be pregnant with another child, but know you can’t do anything about it?
Yeah…I’m having one of those days.

The Audacity of Strangers

One of our local grocery stores has little carts.  S loves them.  Every time we go there, if there are little carts, he wants one.  He is pretty good about steering them, but he is 3!

Yesterday, I took A, S and his friend O, to the grocery store with me.  They had 2 little carts, so I let S and O get a cart each.  They were doing a pretty good job of steering them, not bumping into too many things :)

At one point, we were walking down a main aisle and they were behind me a little as I was searching for something.  I hear S scream then say “STOP IT!”  I turned around and asked him what was wrong?  He looked at me, just so sad and upset and said, “That lady said she was going to spank me”.  I said, “What?”  S: “That mean lady said she was going to spank me”.  I then told him to show me where this lady was.

Well, down the frozen foods aisle was a woman and her husband, probably in their late 60’s.   I walked up to her and and said,
“Did you tell my son you were going to spank him?” (I still was in disbelief that I had to ask this)
B (Insert any B word you’d like here): If he didn’t stop hitting people with his cart I would.
Me: Well, that is not your place.  If you have a problem with my child, you come talk to me, his Mother.
B: I don’t think he should have that cart.  I don’t like those carts, the store shouldn’t have them.
Me:  Well, they do, so if you don’t like it, you should shop somewhere else.
B: Yes, I know.  I’m sorry.
Me:  Don’t apologize to me, apologize to my son.
B: (very patronizingly) I’m sorry.
B’s husband: You need to learn him some manners.
Me: He is THREE, he’s learning.  Man, you all act as if you’ve never been around children before.
B: (looking quite proud) Oh, we have grandchildren.
Me: Well, I certainly hope you don’t treat them like this.

They then walked away, as did I, but I was shaking.  You do not threaten my child, or any child for that matter.  I don’t spank my child, why would it be ok for a complete stranger to??? I just can not believe that this woman would say that to a sweet little child!!!!!!  I am still floored and just so saddened by the whole experience.  Later, I told S and O to be careful with their carts and he said, “Yeah, or the mean lady will come and spank us”.  Oh, if she’d laid a hand on my child….GRRRRRRRRRR (that’s the Mama Bear in case you didn’t know).
